A film-tested Bell & Howell FD35 film camera with a B&H/Canon FD 50mm f1.4 lens -- apparently a rebadged Canon TX and Canon FD 50mm f1.4!

I'm a big fan of the Bell & Howell FD35. It's essentially the same camera as a Canon TX, compatible with all Canon FD lenses. As far as I can tell, the lens it comes with is the same as the classic and beloved Canon FD 50mm f1.4 breech lock lens. I particularly dig the B&H logo and graphic on the front of the camera -- it's just fun!

The camera is in good cosmetic condition with a little normal wear. The foam light seals have not been replaced, but I didn't see any light leaks that seem attributable to the camera in my test roll (I did see some light leaks on my first few frames, but they don't look like camera leaks and I attribute them to my bulk roller, particularly because I saw similar marks on another roll that did not go through this camera.)

The lens is in decent cosmetic shape, but part of the rubber grip on the focusing ring is missing (see detail photo). This doesn't affect function. When I shine light through from behind, I can see some dust and haze in the lens, but I didn't see any effect on images in my test roll (although I did not shoot directly into the sun or other light sources).

The light meter works, but it is about 1/3 to 2/3 of a stop off. I shot my test roll at 200 ASA for 400 ASA film, but the attached photo seems slightly overexposed to me. My best guess is that under regular lighting conditions, setting the camera one click under 400 ASA for 400 ASA film should give the best results. 

I haven't tested the camera with a flash.

Some vintage camera lenses were manufactured with thorium, which makes them slightly radioactive. In this particular case, I've tested this B&H/Canon 50mm f1.4 lens with my own consumer grade dosimeter and did not detect radiation above background level. Separately, I once detected average readings of a Canon FD 50mm f1.4 very slightly above average background levels, but that could have just reflected natural fluctuations in background levels. I've never seen anyone else report the Canon FD 50mm f1.4 as a thoriated lens. But again, we cannot guarantee any lenses are thorium free. Customers should educate themselves and make their own decisions before purchasing.
