The Canon FTb is one of my favorite cameras of all time - you can read my love letter to the camera here to see why.

This particular model is in great cosmetic shape with a little normal wear. The light meter works and, with a modern alkaline battery, matches the readings I get with my Canon New F-1 meter.

The biggest issue with the camera body is that when I was shooting outdoors with it in subfreezing temperatures a couple of winters ago, the mirror would stick up when I shot at 1/1000th of a second. It would return to its normal position when I advanced the film. I don't know if that problem was temporary or persists.

The lens is a much coveted Canon FD 50mm f1.4. This particular model is an older "chrome nose." The front and back of the lens has some light scratches and the interior has some dust. The biggest issue with the lens is that one far edge of the rear element has a kind of dulled area and the other far edge of the rear element has a slight orangish tint. I'm not sure what caused either of those flaws, but for what it's worth, I don't recall seeing an issues with the images I shot with this lens.

I remember shooting with both this camera and lens separately and getting good results from each, but I'm not sure which photos I have come from this gear, so I'm unable to show examples. So the camera is priced pretty cheaply as a result.

I haven't tested the camera with a flash.

Battery not included.

Disclaimer and Return Policy

Some vintage camera lenses were manufactured with thorium, which makes them slightly radioactive. Unless otherwise noted in the item description, to the best of our knowledge, the lenses sold through this store were not made with thorium. But since manufacturers have not released comprehensive lists of lenses with thorium, we cannot guarantee any lenses are thorium free. Customers should educate themselves and make their own decisions before purchasing.

I once detected average dosimeter readings of a Canon FD 50mm f1.4 similar to the lens included with this camera very slightly above average background radiation levels, but that could have just reflected natural fluctuations in background levels. I've never seen anyone else report the Canon FD 50mm f1.4 as a thoriated lens. But again, we cannot guarantee any lenses are thorium free. Customers should educate themselves and make their own decisions before purchasing.
